Managing costumes

The Costumes (Wardrobe) category lists every wardrobe element tagged in your breakdown. Costume boards support a dedicated Wardrobe Specifications card and can be linked directly to a character so you can see actor measurements alongside the costume details.

Where to find costumes

In the project nav, click Breakdown, then Elements, then Costumes (or Wardrobe). The list shows each costume item, which scenes it appears in, and a link to its board. Costumes are added by tagging script text in a scene’s breakdown page or by using Add Element and choosing the Costumes category. See Tagging elements in a script breakdown.

Costume boards

Each costume item has a board. Open it from the Costumes list by clicking the item name or the board icon. Starter cards added on first open:
  • Cost / Budget — A note card for cost tracking.
  • Notes — A general notes card.

Adding a Wardrobe Specifications card

The Wardrobe Specifications card captures the physical details of the costume piece.
  1. Open a costume board.
  2. Click Add Card and choose Specifications.
  3. Choose the Wardrobe/Costume specification type.
  4. Fill in the fields:
    • Size — Dress size, suit size, etc.
    • Shoe size
    • Color / Pattern — Color description, print, or pattern detail.
    • Material — Fabric or material type.
    • Condition — New, distressed, period-accurate, etc.
    • Quick notes — Anything else the costume department needs to know.
  5. Save the card.

Linking a costume to a character

Wardrobe items can be linked to a specific character. When a costume is linked to a character, the character’s actor measurements appear directly on the costume board so the costume department has sizing right next to the garment details. To link a costume to a character, open the costume board. At the top of the board, look for the Character association selector and choose the character this costume belongs to. Once linked, the board shows a Character Sizing block with the actor’s measurements from their character board (height, weight, chest, waist, inseam, sleeve, neck, shoe size, and more). If measurements have not been entered yet, open the character board and add a Specifications (Character/Actor) card. See Managing characters.

Other cards on costume boards

  • Image — Reference photos, costume sketches, or purchased garment photos.
  • Link — Vendor pages, purchase links, or reference sources.
  • Todo — Checklist for sourcing, alterations, fittings, or returns. Assign items to a teammate.
  • Contact — Costumer, rental house, or tailor contact information.

Tracking cost

Use the Cost / Budget note card to record estimated and actual amounts. For line-item cost tracking that syncs with the project budget, see Line items and board sync and Budget.

Continuity

For continuity between shooting days, each costume item is tracked through its board. Reference images on the board help the costume department match the look from one shooting day to the next. The Day Bible for each shoot day includes a Costume Continuity card that links to a continuity PDF for that day. Open the Day Bible from the schedule sidebar (stripboard view).
