How to change element type

If you tagged something as the wrong category (e.g. a Prop that should be Set Dressing, or Costumes that should be Props), you can change the element type without removing and re-adding it. The element stays in the same scenes; only its category changes. Change type is available for breakdown items like Props, Set Dressing, Costumes, Vehicles, Stunts, and similar categories. It is not used for Characters or Locations (use Merging duplicate characters or locations for those).

From a scene’s breakdown page

  1. Open BreakdownBreakdown, then click a scene row to open that scene.
  2. In the left sidebar (Scene elements), find the element you tagged wrong (e.g. under Props or Costumes).
  3. Click the element actions menu (three dots) next to the element name.
  4. Click Change type.
  5. The right panel shows Change element type with a list of categories (Props, Set Dressing, Costumes, Vehicles, Stunts, Special Effects, Visual Effects, Sound Effects & Music, Makeup & Hair, Special Equipment, Animals, Camera Notes, Other). Select the correct category.
  6. Click Change type to save.
The element moves to the new category in the sidebar and in the breakdown. Its board, script link, and scene links are unchanged.

From an element’s board

  1. Open BreakdownElements, then open the category (e.g. Props) and click the element to open its board.
  2. On the board, click the Change type button (top right).
  3. Choose the new category from the dropdown.
  4. The element is updated and now appears under the new category in Elements and in every scene where it was tagged.

After changing type

The element keeps the same name, script highlight (if any), and board. Only the category label changes. Reports and PDFs will show it under the new category. If you need to fix a character or location name (or merge duplicates), use Merging duplicate characters or locations instead. More: Tagging elements in a script breakdown, Elements.
