Managing scene boards

Every scene in your breakdown has a board, a separate workspace from the scene breakdown page itself. The breakdown page is where you tag elements and write production notes. The scene board is where you attach images, links, checklists, and references that the team needs for that specific scene.

Where to find a scene board

There are two ways to open a scene board:
  1. From the scene breakdown page — Open a scene from the Breakdown table, then click View scene board at the top of the page.
  2. From the Breakdown tab — Click a scene row in the main Breakdown table to open the scene, then use the board link.

Scene breakdown page vs. scene board

It helps to know the difference:
  • Scene breakdown page — Where you tag elements (props, wardrobe, characters), write production notes for the scene, and see the script text for that scene. Production notes entered here appear on breakdown reports.
  • Scene board — A card-based workspace for department references, links, images, and tasks tied to that scene. Cards here do not appear on the script or breakdown reports, but they are visible to any teammate with access.
Use the scene breakdown page for content the AD or script supervisor needs in the report. Use the scene board for research, references, and pre-production tasks.

What you can add on a scene board

Click the Add Card area on the board to choose a card type:
  • Note — Written notes, tone references, or direction. Useful for attaching director notes or DP references to a specific scene.
  • Image — Visual references, location scouting photos, or storyboard panels for the scene.
  • Link — Research links, mood board URLs, or reference videos.
  • Todo — A checklist for pre-production tasks tied to this scene. Add individual items, assign them to teammates, and mark them done as you go. Todo items support comments and @mentions.
  • Contact — A contact relevant to this scene (e.g. a location owner, a specific vendor, or a department head).
  • Specifications — Custom fields for any technical detail you want to track against the scene (use the General type for open-ended fields).

Using Todos to assign pre-shoot tasks

Scene board Todos are a good way to track what needs to happen before the shoot:
  1. Open the scene board and add a Todo card.
  2. Give the card a title (e.g. “Pre-light checklist” or “Location prep”).
  3. Add individual todo items inside the card.
  4. Assign each item to a teammate using the assignee picker.
  5. Team members get notified and can check off their items.
Todo items can have comments and @mentions. Open a todo item to discuss it with the team without leaving the board.

Comments and @mentions on cards

Any card on a scene board supports comments. Open a card (click it) to open the detail panel, then type a comment. Use @name to tag a teammate and they will be notified. This keeps scene-level discussions attached to the right scene rather than scattered in a chat thread.

Organizing the board

Drag cards to reorder them on the board. There is no limit to how many cards a scene board can hold, but keeping it focused on the most useful references helps the team find what they need quickly. More: Boards and cards, Breakdown, Tagging elements in a script breakdown.
